The final version of Sega’s OutRun found its way on the Microsoft Xbox360 store and for me it was a least one of the best ‘pick up & play’ racing games to date (followed by the excellent Horizon Chase Turbo in 2018!)
The Xbox360 is based upon the SP version and runs very smooth. The game puts you in the seat of a selection of Ferrari’s such as the 360. Enzo, Testarossa, Daytona and many other recognisable Ferrari’s racing rivals through 15 different stages, each uniquely different and varying in difficulty, with your girlfriend as the passenger its your goal in OutRun mode to navigate 5 stages which you chose at the end of every stage by taking a particular fork in the road. When you finish the 5 stages each last stage has its own ending.
There are other options like 15 stage continuous, heartbreak mode and the non functioning online mode.
Sadly it was delisted from the store many years ago so unless you have downloaded you want be able to play it, however there is some good news and both OutRun SP and OutRun 2006 Coast to Coast Xbox original games will work on a Xbox360 via backward compatibility (albeit in a lower resolution), you’ll need a original disc copy , lucky Outrun SP can be had for under £8 in the UK
