Tracking Your Game Collection? :\

If you are a collector or planning on being one, then one of the most important things to keep track of is what games you have. Believe me when I say that you will end up buying duplicates by mistake , when you get home you discover that you have that game. I even did that recently when I forgot to take my phone to my local game store and ended buying a Transformers game for the Xbox360 that I already owned 😮

At first I didn’t really worry about duplicates early on in my collection because when you only have around 200 games, over a few systems its relatively easy to just remember when you have that title that your clasping in the store!

however when you step over that threshold of several hundred games over multiple games, using memory just doesn’t cut it anymore, at least from my personal experience this is true.

My chosen method then became taking pictures of my shelves on which my games were stored and to help they were sorted in alphabetical order.
So when I ventured out in search of games that needed to join my game army, I could at least zoom in on my phone and see if that particular game was already in the shelves.. Mistakes were still made 🙁 .. a photo is fine on the the day of the shopping trip, but an out-of-date picture reeks havoc with the purchase as then you’ll be back to pulling up the short term memory again, which in my case isn’t great at best of times.

Enter the GameEye App

Thankfully I discovered the GameEye App, disclaimer – its not the only one out there, it’s just my preferred game tracking app for my Android phone.

I’ve been using GameEye for about 4 or 5 years and that is a bit of a guess, its got better over the years and has lots of features.. I’m going to deep into or reviewing it.

Gameye App for Android & Apple – A great app to keep on top of your video games collection

For my needs, it has nearly all my games on bar a few obscure games, tracks my trades (doubles – yes those mistake purchases!), keeps tabs on systems, peripherals and other items I have no need for (toys 2 life and printed media).
Adding games is easy and painless, you can add multiple games in one go to – however I prefer to add them by search as the barcode scanner doesn’t always come up with a game.

What’s Your Collection Worth?

It does summarise your collection in 5 categories and a total in terms of quantity of items and value. Here is the where its not 100% accurate, the prices for about 15-10% of my collection is missing and prices of games are too high or low for my location. I’m going to take a stab in the dark that prices across different countries vary, sometimes quite significantly so don’t take that price as gospel, if your are thinking of insuring your collection or selling it then this is probably the only time that price is relevant.

So all in all GameEye is a good App to track your collection, it also is updated on a regular basis, I will continue to use for as long as I’ve got a games collection. Highly recommended.
