What about the game?

Need for Speed is a very popular franchise, the 3D version dating right back to Panasonic 3D0 / PC days, NFS the run is a departure from a multiple race based story into a game based on one long race across America

In my household at the time I was the only one that like the concept of the game, my sons at the time didn’t like it, primarily because, I guess it wasn’t open world and to them felt a bit restricted. however I found the game enjoyable and I suppose it connected to my love for the Outrun series of games where you race continually in stages in a long race, this game being a very long race!

The racing and handling is polished as you’d expect from a long standing racing game franchise such as Need For Speed, the action is fast paced and different sections have different goals to achieve to keep the pace of the game up.

Expect frantic action as you try to move up the pack whilst avoiding traffic and collisions with other racers, and add the police into the mix then the heat is really on. The police chatter also is expertly done and adds to the tense racing. The story aspect is relevant but expect to have to execute a few quick time elements on Jack’s behalf during the story focus parts of the game.

Overall I’m a car guy so I tend to lean into racing games, so Need For Speed The Run is a game that I will be playing from my collection in the future, in my opinion it is a decent game that wont take a long time to complete a run and satisfy a bit of impromptu racing!
